Resolution on the Arab World

  1. The Arab world continues to be one of the main theatres of the cruel war that imperialism is waging against the working class and the people of the world, with the objective to pillage the ressources of the region and to submit its peoples.

  1. The project of the « Great Middle East », initiated by US imperialism and supported by the other imperialist countries, has been put into practice after 9/11. This plan has had desastrous effects on the peoples of the region, who are confronted with:

    1. the military occupation of Iraq by the US-British forces, which has plonged this great Arab country in total ruin and undermines its national and territoral unity;

    2. the accentuation of Zionist arrogance to the detriment of the Palestinian people, that fully suffers occupation, pillage, expulsion and assassination. It is also submitted to the plans that aim to annihilate its legitimate national rights, such as its right to self-determination, its right to establish a national State, the right to self-determination,and the right of return for the refugees.

    3. the threats with military intervention in Lebanon and Syria and suspicious attempts – under the cover of « democratic change » and the « defence of human rights » - to realise colonialist and war-like plans in the region.

    4. the interference of imperialist States, in the first place the USA, in the internal affairs of the countries of the region, as has happened in Sudan, which has been the object of divisions on an ethnical basis.

  1. The undersigned, participants of the 17th International Communist Seminar, held in Brussels from May 16-18, salute:

    1. the resistance of the Arab working class and peoples, in particular in Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. They draw the attention to the suffering endured by the population of Darfur, submitted to the oppression of local reactionary forces and the imperialis powers.

    2. the action undertaken by Left and communist forces in the region in view of concerting and coordinating their struggle for national, social and democratic emancipation.
