Resolution regarding the May Day Celebrations of 2007 in Turkey

The Fascist Governor must Immediately Resign!

During the recent May Day celebrations in Turkey, the Governor of Istanbul, Muammer Guler, acted like a commandant of occupation forces and terrorized the public! Istanbul was invaded by the police! The public who wanted to celebrate the May Day has been treated like terrorists; workers had to put up with inhumane treatment!

The governor, who weeks before started to escalate the tension about the pending May Day, in an effort to prevent the celebrations take place in Taksim, the centre of Istanbul -a square that was banned to the Turkish left since 1977- put in effect practically martial law. This year’s May Day celebrations would be the commemoration of May 1, 1977, on which date a glorious May Day celebration with the participation of 500.000 workers were taking place in Taksim and 34 workers were shot by snipers!

The police attacked brutally; workers were wounded and exposed to gas! it was apparent from the amount gas used, they had the intention to kill!

More than 1100 people were taken into custody and hundreds were wounded. Among them 600 members of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and the Patriotic Front, and many members of other Leftist parties and trade unions.

The fascist governor Muammer Guler and his superior Abdulkadir Aksu, the minister of interior affaires, who in a matter of speaking declared a curfew in order to prevent the May Day celebrations taking place in Taksim must without delay leave their posts!

The heads of the anti-terror departments, who took explicit pleasure out of hurting people and apparently have no human feelings, must immediately be asked to resign!
