Full support for the Cuban measures against subversion and aggression

The United States has shown, with its illegal and barbaric war of aggression against Iraq, that it has opted for militarization, war and fascism in its will to impose its imperialist domination on the whole world. The war against Iraq can be viewed as the opening round of the Third World War, and many more countries and peoples are in the US line of fire.

As the only socialist country in what the US calls its «backyard», Cuba has been for the last forty years the victim of economic blockade, military aggression, terrorist attacks and internal subversion, orchestrated, led and financed from Washington. Since the victory of the counter-revolution in the Soviet Union and East Europe, 11 September 2001 and the attack on Irak, this policy of aggression has been further reinforced. US imperialism, more arrogant than ever, is today threatening Cuba directly.

The Workers’ Party of Belgium vehemently condemns all the attacks of US imperialism on Cuba and fully supports the energetic action taken by the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban government against them. These measures are completely legitimate and absolutely necessary for preserving the sovereignty and the socialist system of Cuba.

While Cuba is arresting and condemning terrorists who are putting the Cuban population in danger, the US authorities hold five Cubans prisoners precisely because they tried to counter that type of terrorism.

The Workers’ Party of Belgium demands the immediate liberation of the Five.

The Workers’ Party of Belgium invites all progressive forces to choose the side of Cuba. Support for Cuba is a choice for peace, for the right of peoples to self-determination and for socialism.
